BASEBALL:

Pitcher Seth Smith came up big for the Dons in his first start this year.

The sophomore gave up two runs in five innings of work and the Dons defeated Cypress, 9-7, to clinch their fifth straight OEC title on April 15.

“I asked Skip [Head Coach Don Sneddon] for the ball, but didn’t know I would get it this soon,” Smith said.

Gary Apelian hit his team leading sixth home run in the eighth.

The Dons face conference opponents Saddleback College at home Tuesday.
